Knees Up was originally formed to allow Blandford Hospital's ex-heart patients to continue exercising after their hospital classes stopped. As the group has expanded, classes are now offered at all levels. In addition to classes for people who have had heart operations, there are now classes for Parkinsons sufferers, people who have had hip and other joint replacements, plus a good range of exercise classes from low impact to quite energe tic ones. These are mainly for older people, but younger adults are accepted, especially if referred by Doctors.
In addition to exercise classes, Pilates, Line Dancing and Ballroom/Latin Dance classes are now held and it is hoped to start Yoga and T'ai Chi in the autumn. If there is space in these classes younger adults will be accepted - and although Ballroom classes are mainly for couples, the group will try to arrange suitable partners for single adults. All classes are run by well qualified trainers with the aim of improving people's health and well-being.
Our Aim is to provide safe and structured exercise opportunities to those who for whatever reason cannot use more conventional exercise classes. Members can enjoy the sessions in the sure knowledge that no-one will place pressure on them, allowing them to join in at their own comfortable pace.
